Supplementary Earthquake Insurance

Extra protection for earthquake damage above the DASK maximum, plus fire risks.

Supplementary Earthquake Insurance

DASK protects your building up to a maximum amount set by its construction type. If rebuilding your home would cost more than that, the difference is yours to bear after a major earthquake. Supplementary Earthquake Insurance is designed to cover exactly that gap: the damage above the DASK limit. Alongside earthquake cover it includes fire, lightning and explosion, as well as your liability when a fire damages your neighbours' or tenant's property, and depending on the insurer, services such as an ambulance and medical advice may also be included. We compare your building's real value with your DASK cover and work out how much extra cover you need.

What is covered?

  • Earthquake damage above the DASK maximum (optional earthquake cover)
  • Fire
  • Lightning
  • Explosion
  • Liability for fire damage to neighbours
  • Liability for fire damage to your tenant
  • Services such as an ambulance and a medical advice line (insurer dependent)

What you should know

Supplementary earthquake cover sits on top of DASK, so a valid DASK policy is generally required. We check your DASK policy's term and sum insured with you.

Depending on the insurer, earthquake covers may carry a deductible and a co-insurance share. We discuss clearly, before you buy, how much of a loss would stay with you.

This product focuses on earthquake and fire. For risks such as water damage, burglary and glass breakage, and for contents protection, home insurance is the more comprehensive solution.
