Complementary Health Insurance

Private hospital treatment without paying the top-up fee, alongside your public cover.

Complementary Health Insurance

Complementary Health Insurance (TSS) covers the top-up fee charged by private hospitals that have an agreement with the Turkish Social Security Institution (SGK). SGK pays for the treatment it covers, and your TSS policy pays the hospital's additional charge within the policy scope and limits.

Its premium is markedly lower than full private health insurance, which makes it one of the most efficient health solutions for a family budget. The basic requirements are active SGK cover and a hospital contracted both with SGK and with your insurer. We compare insurers' TSS plans, provider networks and extra benefits for you.

What is covered?

  • Inpatient: surgery, hospitalisation, intensive care
  • Outpatient: consultations, tests, imaging (limited)
  • Physiotherapy sessions
  • Chemotherapy and radiotherapy
  • Ambulance service
  • Maternity cover (depending on the plan)

Optional add-on covers

  • Check-up programme
  • Maternity cover and routine pregnancy check-ups
  • Dental check-up and dental packages
  • Lifetime renewal guarantee (plan dependent)
  • Different plans and networks for family members on the same policy
  • Outpatient add-on package
  • Online doctor service

What you should know

TSS cannot be used at hospitals without an SGK agreement. Outpatient cover is usually granted with an annual number of visits or a limit; we size it to your needs.

Aesthetic procedures, conditions that existed before the policy and treatment within waiting periods are generally excluded. The exact exclusions are set out in the plan's special conditions.

Insurers differentiate their TSS plans with extra benefits. For example, the TSS product of Quick Sigorta, one of the insurers we represent, includes a check-up, maternity cover and routine pregnancy check-ups, a dental check-up for ages 1 and over, a lifetime renewal guarantee and the option of different plans and networks on the same policy; children under 18 can also be insured on their own. As details vary by plan, we compare them side by side.
